DEATH OF MRS. KEALS.

The woman Edith Emma Koais, wh* was murderously attacked near One. wbero. died at the District Hospital this evening without regaining conscious-" ncss. ■ A "Herald" representative, who is afcv thw scone of the tragedy, telegraphed: to-night, that the baby is still and although there are strong indications as to the identity of the assailant,: settlors who arc searching havo been, unable to locate his whereaboutsTho ladyhelp, Miss Hunter, who is now in Auckland, stated that as she had dono the washing on tho day beforo the crinio she went to bed very tired, and slept soundly, hearing no noise. Mrs. Keals retired to bed later. Whon she opened deceased's bedroom door in the morning. she saw blood on tho sheets and a club about the length of a beei bottle lying near, and sho immediately garo tho alarm. •Later. Telegraphing late to-night, the aid" representative stated that tho. whole countryside between Onewheroand tho scene of tho murderous attack upon Mrs. Kcals was up and out, alert to' apprehend tho mysterious perpreta- • tor of tho deed. So far no arrest hasbeen made, and not a traco has been found of tho missing baby. Discoveries havo been mado which have put the* police on definite lines of investigation, and a suspected individual is being diligently sought. Sub-Inspector W. Iveney lias taken cliargo of tho case. Scach for the criminal and the uiissin? baby is being made by fifty settlors and Maoris from all parts of tho district.
