CRICKET. HAWKE'S BAY AND POVERTY BAY. (By TeleeraDh.—Press Association.) Napier, February 8. The Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay cricket match commenced here to-day in cold though fine weather. The home team batted first, compiling 403 (Board .195, Patterson 48, O'Brien 27, J. Stevens 32, Anderson 31). M'Mahon took eight wickets for 72 runs, and Maude and Moore one each. The visitors were disposed of easily for 89 (Gartshore 25, Guthrie 17, and 'M'Connell 16). Napier took six wickets for 84 runs, and Dean and O'Brien two wickets each. Way will be resumed to-morrow.
BOWLING
. THE JOHN SON VILLE CLUB. EDWIN FEATHERS. A very closely contested game between a team from the Otaki Club and the Johnsonville Club resulted in a tie, 14 all, on the last head. An extra head was played, in which the Johnsonville Club scored 2 points and won. Johnsonville: Morgan, Styles, Sloane, Turner (s.), 16. Otaki: H. Bright, Ollivor, A. Bright, Ferguson. (s.) ; 14. Two teajns from Otaki and one from Kolburn played friendly matches with tho Johnsonville Club, and after very enjoyable games the results were:— Otaki: Young, Howell, Bells, Benzie (s.), 16. Johnsonville: Hardie, V. A. Mills, Harrap, Bethune (s), 14. Otaki: 'Wilson, Gooding, Bates, Windley (s.), 17. Johnsonville: Wackrow, A. Mills, Eetrie, Orr (s.), 23. Kelburn: Milne,'»Ahdrews, Hutchison, Gannaway, 15. Johnsonville: Taylor, Bould, Baskerville, Thompson, 24. Teams to represent the Karori Bowling Club on Wednesday.: at Thomdon green areA. Foster, W. The following will represent Seatoun in a. friendly game against Newtown on tho Newtown green on Wednesday: —Heath, M'Farlane, M'Gruar, Green (s.). The following have been selected a-o the fourth rink to represent the Victoria Club against the Hutt, on the Hutt green, on Wednesday:—Martin, Avory, Tucker, Townsend (s.).
YACHTING.
The Te Ruru Yacht Club held a race on Saturday that was postponed on Anniversary Day. There was a good Btiff breeze blowing. Following were the results:—TVixie, handicap smin., 5.30 p.m. finishing time; Seabird, 2min., 5.36 p.m.; Muratai, smin., 5.36J p.m.; Rawene, 4min., 5.40 p.m. ; Lizzie, 6min., 6.44 p.m.; . Essex, 20mm., 6.28 p.m. Viking, scr., did not start, and Ruliai, 20min., did not finish. The long distance race will bo sailed next Saturday.
