THE TOKOMARU
MESSAGE OF SYMPATHY. The Prime Minister has received the following fro n the Premier of South Australia:—"This Government desires to express its sympathy with the peoplo of New Zealand in the lossof the Tokomaru with its cargo, portion of which consisted' of the Dominion's contribution towards the relief of the destitute Belgians, and regrets that the philanthropic efforts of its citizens havo been thwarted bv a relentless enemy.— (Signed) Peake, Premier." The following reply has been sent:— "Premier, Adelaide. —Government and people of New Zealand heartily thank you for kind expression of sympathy in the loss of the Tokomaru. Wo need hardly tell you that the loss of part of the Dominion's contributions towards the relief of the Belgian distressed seems to bo felt more keenly here than oven the loss of the -ship and the rest of her cargo. The sinking of the Tokomaru will be another item to remember when the settling day comes.—(Signed) W. F. Slassoy."
