A "FATHER'S , EMBRACE
GENERAL JOFFRE'S FAREWELL TO THREE AIR HEROES. Paris, December 12. During a recent engagement the Com-mander-in-Chief called together all his locally available airmen. "There is a very important mission to be earned out," lie said to the men, thirty-six in number, "and I want three men who aro ready to sacrifice their lives. Les those who aro prepared to do this hold up their hands." Every man raised his hand. The General, who was deeply touched, caused lots to be drawn, and then remained hi confidential conversation with the three men on whom the lot had fallen. He left them in no doubt concerning the terrible danger they would be facing. Their orders received, tho threo heroes saluted and left to make ready the aeroplane that was to carry them to deafh. "Halt! right about!' ordered the General, and the three returned. "Since when has it been," he said, "that children who are going to dio do not embrace their father?" And he embraced each maniri turn. Then the three left him again.—Central News.
