MASTERTON. The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club has decided to recommend ThursMarch 4, as the date for the provincial championship meeting in Masterton. The employers, are to be asked to observe a holiday as from noon on that day, and the Railway Department is to be requested to carry passengers to Wellington by the train leaving here at sis o'clock in the ingMr. J. H. Tatham, of Homewood, has purchased the property of Mr. Rj Pitoaithly, at Tawataia. The Kaiparoro Cheese Company had forty-four cases of cheese aboard the Tokomaru. The late Mr. Ole was for some years a member of the Mauriceville County Council. At its meeting on Saturday the council passed a resolution expressing sympathy with the widow and family of the deceased. L> The Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company has' received -advice that the butter shipped by the lonic has realised 1445. 6d. per cwt. for the choicest. The local branch of the W.C.T.U. held its usual meeting in Knox Hall on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Sutherland was elected delegate to the annua] convention, to be held in Christchurch. It was_ decided to send a letter of appreciation to Miss Roberts for the interest she had taken in the union. News has been received that Mr. John M'Laohlan, of Masterton, met with a serious accident recently at Ashburton, through being crushed by the elevators of a threshing mill falling on him.
