MOUNT COOK SCHOOLS

The usual monthly meeting of the Mt. Cook School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. The headmaster of the boys' school reported that the school reopened that morning with an attendance of 317 boys. It was reported that out of a total of 314 boys who stood for examination last year 292 were returned as "passed." The appeal to the children for money for the Belgian Relief Fund elicited a splendid response. The Guy Fawkes day collections wore £52 14s. Bd., and this amount was further increased by £68 10s., raised by the. scholars and teachers of the girls' school by means of a fete, held in the school grounds on December 9 last, making a grand total of £121 4s. Bd. During the year, for various purposes, the three Mount Cook schools have raised a sum of £162 12s. 4d. The play grounds at the rear of the boys school have been asphalted and the committee have spent £14 in filling iip tennis courts, and £7 4s. on providing gravel for tie front play ground.
