CARTERTON NOTES
Miss L. Robmson A of the Belvedere School staff, has been transferred to Waihakeke, and Miss J. Campbell, • of Masterton, will act as relieving teacher at Belvedere. , On Thursday evening an appropriation of £300 by ballot under the auspices of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was drawn By Mrs. S. Dalgleish,Longbush, £150, and Mr. A. J. Lindop, Carterton, £150. The appropriation of £300 by sale was bought by Mr. H. T. Potts, Carterton, at £21 10s. per each £150. The sale of the £300 on account of Mr. T. 6. Weare was not disposed of. The latest total of the Mayor's Belief Fund at Carterton is £1179. At a meeting of the contributors on Friday evening it was decided to hand the funds over to the Wairarapa Relief Fund, which is being raised for the poor of Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium, and that 25 per cent, be retained for local relief. Tho Mayor (Mr. M. D. Hornsby), Messrs. W. Howard Booth, T. S. Arcus, and L; H. Smart were appointed a local executive.
Through their branches at Carterton, Martinborough, and Masterton, Messrs. Dalgety and Company have sent 10,000 lambs to buyers in the Manawatu district, chiefly Fcilding and Palmcrston North.
The Government is forwarding 30 tons of flour to the Wairarapa from Auckland for the use, of three Carterton and one Greytown bakers, who found it necos-, sary to make application for same through the member for the district, owing to the difficulty they were experiencing in obtaining supplies. Other bakers in the Wairarapa are making similar application.
