FREEZING OUT GERMAN WOOL INTERESTS
'AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT'S SUPPORT. (Eec. January 29, 8.30 p.m.) Sydney, January 29. A deputation of wool buyers and sellers sought Government aid. to prevent Germans operating on the wool market. Evidence was given by Japanese, Yorkshire, French, and Belgian buyers that they were handicapped Dy naturalised Germans buying for indirect dispatch to Germany, generally through America. •Mr. Hughes (Federal Attorney-Gen-eral) agreed that the matter was of vital importance. He assured them that the Government would support the buyers in discouraging German competition, and prevent any wool, or financial aid as the result of dealing in wool, reaching Germany, cither _ directly or through America in any circumstances whatsoever. Mr. Hughes added: The Government has information that Britain is able to take the whole ofi Australia's wool clip." (Eec. January 30, 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, January 29. • Mr. Hughes has promised to consider the tightening of the conditions in regard to the export of wool and the licensing of wool-buyers.
