A few years ago the dairy farmers of Taranaki found that they could never be Quite certain of a steady, even supply of butter doicb and cheese crates from the then suppliers, po tho co-operative dairy factory companies of the district' conferred and decided to establish their own box-making factory, and a company with a nominal capital ox £100,000 (£40,000 of which ifl paid MP) Wft3 formed to initiate the industry. To-day tho company has a large factory fitted with the most up-to-date plant at Onutu, one at. Eltham (where, the office of the company is located), and another at Kakahi, south of Taumarunui,. where at present is being built a, Government standard gauge railway into a 22,000-aore. block of bush, fairly furnished with well-grown white pine. Some idea, can be gained of the magnitude of the factory at _Onutu when it is mentioned that it rovers naif en acre of land.
