;—♦- ■ The Gladstone Sports Clnb lad deoided not to hold its sports gathering this year on account of not being able to get a suitable ground. The camp of -tlio '17th ftuahine Regiment will be held on the Opaki racecourse, Masterton, about the latter end of March or beginning of April. The district extends from Featherston to Waipawa. The annual returns of the-Carterton Court show that during the year just closed. 330 criminal offences were heard, as compared with 207 last year. There were 131 cases of drunkenness, against 73 last year. The number of plaints issued was 144, the previous year's total being 165. The amount sued for was £1472 2s. 6d., and £1105 ls._ 6d. was recovered. The number of distress warrants issued was 11, warrants of committal'lj and judgment summonses' 22. For the quarter ended December 31 > 41 plaints were issued, claiming £487 Bs. 10d., the amount recovered being £218 9s. 6d. At a meeting of the Foresters' Lodge on Wednesday evening a vote of condolence was passed to the widow and daughte rof the late Dr. Galligan. In connection with tho appointment of a successor it was reported that the services of Dr. Gunn were available, and the 'delegates to the Friendly Societies' Council were i nstructed to place that information before that body. The delegates were also given disoretionary power in connection with the'filling of the vacanoy. The local dairy factories are sending Home 1235 cases of cheese in the Somerset sailing next week. Tho consignment is made up as follows: — Daiefield, 600; Belvedere, 335; Taratahi, 140: Carrington, 140; Longbush, 20'. Two Tinks from the Carterton Bowling Club will leave for Auckland on Friday to take part in the tournament which opens there next week. Messrs. E. B. Beard, A. H. Haigh, H. Humphries, A.
