SERIOUS FIRE IN FLAX LAND
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £20,000. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Carterton,-'January 4. ' ' A second fire in the flax plantation at Toogood's Longbush mill happened last evening; Aided by'a strong wind the fire soon spread, and in a very little time practically the whole 'of the 400 acres was destroyed. It is estimated the loss will amount to £20,000. Palmerston North, January 4. A serious fire out in a flax.area ■at Tokomaru yesterday. About 400 acres were badly damaged, and the losses will be heavy, but are, not yet ascertainable. The chief sufferers are Seifert Bros.' and Akera.
