HUTT RIVER BOARD
At the final meeting of the HuttRiver Board lield last evening there •wore present: Messrs. ■H. Baldwin (chairman), Bowers, Knight and Welch. An apology was received'from Mr. Kennedy. The overseer's report gave a concise resume of the year's work in connection with the river, and made several recommendation's as to the future protection of its banks During last month there had been three'freshes in the river, of Sft. 6in., 10ft. 6in., and 4ft. 6in.. respectively. The boom groyne at Hooper's had been completed (the length of which, was 154 ft.), at a cost of £57 13s. 6d. The groyne above the Hutt bridge had been extended 40ft., at a cost of £12 2s. 6d., estimate £17 2s. The first of Mr. Laing-Meason's groynes below the bridge, 136 ft. in length, was also completed at a cost of £71 lis. 2d: The overseer strongly recommended that a more powerful engine be procured for pile-driving purposes. The report was adopted, and the overseer was instructed to make inquiries regarding a more serviceable engine. This was the last meeting of the present board, and an election of members is to he held on January 12, nominations for which close with the secretary (Mr. W. Cuff) at noon to-day.
