MAITAI FBOM SAN FRANOISCO. ' Early on Saturday morning the Union Company's mail steamer Maitai arrived at Wellington from San Francisco, vie Papeete and marotonga, after an uneventful passage. Acording to tho official report of tho voyage, the-Maitai left the Callforriian port at 2 p.m. on December 3, end arrived at Papeete on December 23. After a stay of 24 hours she sailed for Karotonga. reaching the latter port at 1 p.m. on Christinas Day. The journey to Wellington was resumed the same evening. On learing tho Golden Gate the Maitai ran into a strong southerly gale, and was to hove-to for several hours. After that tha weather was fine and the Bea calm. Before proceeding on to Sydney on fiat urday evening the Maitai landed the following cargo at Wellington :—4BO tons era! cargo, 1580 oases oanned fish, 3240 casecanned fruit, 2840 paokages driod fruits, 832 cases fruit, 200 kegs white lead, 48 bales hops, 2000 packs' flour, 40 orates roofing 39 kits bananas, 2573 cases bananas, 138 'sacks coconuts, and a quantity of sundries.
