NEW AUSTRALIAN STEAMEE. - The Melbourne Steamship Company's new steamer Woolgar, which has been constructed by Messrs. Swan, Hunter, and wigham, Richardson, Ltd., at their works on Newoastle-on-Tyne, has left the Tyuo for Avonmouth, where she was to have Iradod for Australia. The vessel is 350 feet in .length by 47 feet beam, and will carry 6400.t0ns of cargo on a comparatively light draught. She has accommodation for ncrees, cuttle, etc., and thero aro a few ■ spare rooms for passengers. Tho propelling machinery consists of triplc-expandon engines, supplied with steam by two boilers, and has also been constructed at the Neptune Works. Captain Roy is in command of the vessel, which has been supervised during construction by Messrs. .Thompson, Eyres, and Bryers, consulting engineers, Sunderland.

ULIMAROA ARRIVES 7 P.M. Messrs. Huddart, Parker and Co.'g local office lias been advised by Oaptain-Wylllo, of the Uliraaroa, that he expected the vessel to arrive at Wellington from Sydney direct at ? p.m. to-day. On account of the Now Year holidays the Ulimaroa left the Now South Wales port on Thursday lastone day earlier than usual. There are, 111 passengers and 400 tons of cargo on board for Wellington. A cable-message has been received stating that tie White Star liner. Runic, which arrived at Melbourne from London;- on Thursday evening, had two cases of smallr.ox on board. The vessel has been Quarantined.

According to information received in Wellington, the Union Company's chartered steamer Wyandotte arrived at Melbourne from San Francisco on January 2. It has been decided to lay." the Union Oompany'6,turbine steamer. Maheno up at Sydney for a. trip. The Atua will leave the New South. Wales port for Auokland in Wednesday,- January 6, and she will leave on the return journey on Monday, January 11. -

The Union Company's cargo oarrier Kowhai is at present undergoing overhaul and survey at Port Chalmers.

Bound from Calcutta to Lyttelton, via Hobart, the Union Company's training steamer Aparima arrived at the southern port yesterday. The vessel's original itinerary provided for calling firßt at tho Bluff, but she lias omitted that port and came straight on to Lyttelton. Her cargo for the Bluff will be transhipped to the Wanaka, which will visit Lytteltori on her way from. Napier. The Aparima subsequently visits Wellington.'

Messrs. Levin and Co.'s coastal steamer Awahou will bo placed on the BVp this week for annual overhaul and survey.

The Government steamer Hinemoa left Russell yesterday morning for Cape Maria Van Dleman lighthouse. After visiting other lighthouses in the north the vessel will arrive bock at Wellington in. abdut eight or nine day'* time.

On inquiry yesterday it could not be ascertained whether the Delphic had left Hobart in continuation of her. journey from London to Wellington. As the vessel arrived at the- Tasmania.* port early on Thursday morning, she was expected to get away on Friday or Saturday. If this was the case, the Delphio should arrive at Wellington either late to-morrow night or .early on-Wednesday morning.

According to present arrangements the Shaw-Savill liner Mamari is fixed to leavo Wellington for London' at daybreak - tomorrow. Tho Kia Ora is scheduled to leave here for the Home port on Wednesday of this week,
