ORANGE GROWING AT AKAROA.
"Banks Peninsula hae a climate mild enough for the cultivation of orange groves, states the "Lyttelton Times." Such delightful places as Holmes's Bay can rear large'numbers or orange trees, and; although the fruit might not be perfect-enough for dessert purposes, it would make- excellent 'marmalade. ' Sir. W. J. Courtier, Government Orchard Expert, has just paid a visit'to"Banks' Peninsula," where he inspected the oranges, and found , ' that the groves had set very well, the frosts not. being, very, Mr. Courtier was-, shown, same orange itrees growing' at:.Mr. C. ;W.:;Eeete's orchard at Akaf roa, andr:also sampled some'marmalade made from the crop.- It was. generally conceded that the 'marmalade wasquite equal, to anything tfcit could be produced oA the local market.

The bigr gest daily outputs at the other cheese' lactones _in this ...district, were, as follow S3 , exports ;:Tarama (Ballance), 20;~ Kaitawa, IS'; 'Mangarama, 13; Mangahao, .'■: (Mangatainoka Block), 9•; Kohinui. (new factory erected this year), 10. Between 26 and 27 export cheeses.are generally reckoned to constitute one ton. ' '"■■
