'AGITATION IN WESTPORT. N Westport, December 1. At Mr. H. Gillen's political meeting to-night a resolution -was passed unanimously on the motion of Mr: Gillen' that this meeting of Westport electors protest against the apathy and ineptitude of the Government in neglecting to _ safeguard the people from the-ma-chinations of those farmers, millers or speculators who are cornering flour or wheat with a view of taking toll from the people for their chief necessity; that this meeting demands that the Government shall immediately exercise its powers under the Act already passed to fix the price_ of wheat and other staple commodities, and to take such means as are available to discover the individuals and firms who are withholding supplies and to punish those taking advantage of public necessities to exact exorbitant profits; that this meeting further demands that evidence be taken by the Food Commission at Wellington and elsewhere, and to be immediately published for publio information.
