THE INVERCARGILL SEAT
Inveroarglll, December 7. Mr. J. P. Lillicrap, Reform candidate for Invercargill, addressed a crowded meeting in the Theatre to-night, zest being added by the presence and an address by_ the Hon. James Allen. Each was subjected to a considerable amount of interruption, a portion of the audience being plainly antagonistic to the present Government. Both speakers were counted out on several occasions, and the singing of "It'e a Long, Long Way to Tipperary" interfered with the effect of the Minister's peroration. Tho interruptions, however, were always, good-natured, and at no time was tho audience out of hand. Mr. Allen dealt principally with borrowing, land settle-' ment, local defence, and naval questions. &t ( the conclusion of the speeches a vote of thanks and confidence was moved, and ae soon as it was Tead by the chairman there was a noisy demonstration by the audience, when it became evident that those in favour of the motion were in a very considerable majority.
