AUSTRALIA'S FIGHTING FLEET
BUILDING PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED Melbourne, December '4. The Federal Military and Naval Estimates provide for' an inoreaeo of £750,000 for fleet construction, of which £200,000 will be devoted to a new light cruiser. . ' : The estimated outlay on the military forces was £12,254,490. The Government intends to commence the construotion of flying machines. Mr. Pearce (Minister of Defence) hae sanctioned the construction of a coffer dam at Cockatoo Island, at an estimated cost of £30,000 for the purpose of launching the cruiser Brisbane, wlich is being built at Sydney.
