JOTTINGS FROM PROVINCIAL CENTRES. (From Our Special Correspondents.) PAHIATUA. Owing to the Recreation Ground being in an unsuitable condition for playing cricket during the past three seasons, interest in the summer pastime was not great. Last season only one matoh was played. This season there is every indication of a revival.* Already one match has been played against a.Woodville eleven at Woo'dville, while a return match has been arranged to be played at Pahiatua this afternoon. At a meeting held the other evening it was decided to form a new club, and the rules of the Pahiatua Club of 1904 were, with slight alterations, adopted for- use. The officers elected were as follow:—Patron, Mr. G. Harold Smith; president, Mr. H. M'Sherry; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. D. C. Crewe, T. F. Hewat, C. E. Hosking, E. Sullivan, E. P. Badger, J. H. Griffith, J. Cotter; secretary, Mr. R. Hill; treasurer, Mr. D. W. Wilton. Mr H. Pearcey, a keen supporter of cricket, was elected praotice captain. The pavilion recently authorised to be erected on the Scarborough Domain was completed last week. ' Two rinks from Dannevirke were defeated on the Pahiatua bowling green on Saturday, the scores being:—Pahiatua—Wakeman, M'Sherry, M'Bratney, Hewat (s.), 22; Dannevirke—M'Kibbon, Drummond, Hawkins, Calder (s.), 11. Pahiatua—Leitch. Stevenson, Burroll, Paterson (s.), 24; Dannevirke—-Green-wood, Smith, Armstrong, Scott (s.), 16.

FEATHERSTON.

Duringthe past month seven birthß, ouo marriage, and one death constituted the vital statistics for Featherston - . Rain fell on 13 days last month, and the total fall was 3.15 inches. The maximum was reached on November 29, when .73 inches was the record. Interest in matters political is increasing, . and both candidates are receiving encouraging receptions.

MASTERTON.

Tho vital statistics for Masterton for the month of November were as follow : —Births, 26; deaths, 5; marriages, 5. Tho theory of music examinations conducted .by the Associated Board of the Royal of Music and Royal College of Music were held in Masterton on Saturday. The results will not be known until the end of the* month.. Mr. S. W. Moore, of Carterton, has been solected to represent the Masterton Chess Club at the Nelson tourney at tho end of the present month. Mr. G. D. Ayson, a young architect of Mastorton, has accepted a position on the permanent field staff of the International Correspondence Schools, and left yesterday for Pahiatua, where he commences his new duties. The political and licensing questions are exciting great interest in this district at the present time,; and it is expected that there will be a heavy poll.
