~ [By Gi,Bncob.T . ; The' Feildimg Jockey. Club's Serine Meeting will commence on Saturday next, and mil be concluded on Monday. Tho Welcome Stakes winner, Battle Eve, will have to put up a 51b. penalty in the Ninth Feilding Stakes to be decided on Saturday. Over such a. short course as five furlongs this should make no difference 'to the Chokebore representative. • . : ■ ■ . His successes at Tekapuna yesterday, brought B. Deeley's winnine total for the season up to 26, and he has now a lead of 10 on W. Bell and C. Emerson, who are nost on the list. Now that the Woodville Jockey Club has ydefinitely ' decided 'to postpone, its Summer meeting, until December 16 and 17, it would be a good idea if the handioapper was instructed to postpone his adjustments (which are duo to-morrow) iintil after tho Feildine meeting. The Hawke's Bay Club, which does not race until January 1 and 2, mieht also delay the publication of its weights until after the Woodville meeting. If this were done, the handicappers could then bo enabled to witness the very latest form. Most'of theFoilding competitors will be racing at Woodville, and a'large.number from the last-nanied gathering ■ will bo seen under sillt at-Hostines. - • . The Messrs. Dwan Bros, have been.unfortunate enough to lose itheVasco.colt Columbus, who succumbed to an attack of . pneumonia. The black colt gave much promise, and at Trentham last meeting he ran five furlongs in a hack race faster than did Sauci, who won on open race over the same distance. Christine, winner'of the.'Trial Handi. cap at Takap'una yesterday, is a four-year-old marp by Sylvia Park/ from ChrisBie, As a two-year-old she was growing very faet, and her owner wisely allowed her plenty of time to mature. : Last season she only started twice, and on each occasion showed pace. Now that she has broken,-the ice Bhe jnay add still further to her winnings. .
Soulta'ne,. the full brother to Colonel Soult,, who has been expected for some time, turned up a winner in the Melrose Handicap at Takapuha yesterday. Ho had none the best of ffie handicap in being pkeed within 41b. of Kitty Bellairs, but he managed 'to defeat the Obligado filly, who occupied second place. So far Expect is doing very little on the Awapuni tracks, and G. Price ia undecided as to whether to go on with the Advance horso for the Auckland Gun. At Chrhltmas time the tracks at Ellerelie. are usually very hard, and this fact iuayinfluence theiligliden trainer toallow hie charge to' drop out of his Auckland en. gagements; , ' ' . The roan gelding Pa'tronol© was a good : favourite for the concluding event. at Takapuna yesterday, but he Rot inlto. d { mix-up at. the barrier rise, arid this extinguished Ms chances; ' He was running on in third place ot the finish,'and may do better. onSaturd&.v> ■ '. i . As W. Bell will be required ,to ride the Highden representative in the Peilding Stakes on Saturday another rider will have to be found ■ for Battle Eve. It, is likely that the Fordell representative, H. Young, will be given the mount. Monojack, winner of the big handicap at. Takapuna yesterday, is a half-brother by Monoform tothat good performer Jack Delaval. Hβ is ia the Auckland Cup •with- 7st.• 41b.,■ and 's more likely to be preferred on!' the .day than his relative, who in .the top weight. . ' During Cup week at Eiccarton, E. J. ikson disposed of ''the" lleltchikoft' to the' Christch'urch sportsman who races as "Mr. C: Machell.' Athenic, who did a light season at the stud; last year. Queenlike and French' Eose are to be shipped to Sydney on Friday nest. .The trio will go into H. BayTier's stables on arrival there. Legal Tender,- who is to represent the Highden stables in the- Feilding Stakes. on Saturday, is one-of ..Mr. G. P. Donnelly's breeding. He is a. full brother'to Auratus, who was by Gold Reef from Pursering. .
