MR. FRANK WRIGHT.
The humorous recital which was given by Mr. Frank Wright in ithe Concert Chamber of the I'own Hall last evening was one ;of the pleasantest and most 'interesting entertainments of the kind which has.been given in Wellington for some time, and certainly'merited better support. than it .received. • Mr. Wright is a very versatile entertainer, with much power over his facial expression, and is able at will to transform himself from a young man into an old man, full of reminisences, a country bumpkin. at the pictures;* a sentimental lover, a boy at echool, and the inevitable- Scotchman .yclept M'Clusky. The entertainer last evening introduced himself with a couple of trifling items, "The Way to Kiss a Girl" and "Good-bye to Maudie" and some odd pieces; and later developed his talent in three amusing items of a more substantial character. In "When I Was a Boy at School," Mr. Wright was most amusing, as, in the role of a reminiscent-, old man, he recalled his youthful days and their love affairs. The familiar item, "Snorkias," in which a tipsy bumpkin eseays the recitation of "The Wreck of the Schooner Hesperus" at a temperance entertainment was quite inimitable, while ' Sandy M'Clusky gave Mr. . Wright an opportunity of,, displaying himself' with succees in the role of a Scotchman. Other items by Mr. Wright included the musical monologues "0 Memory," ■"The Man With the Single Hair," - ''What a Pool You Would Be," and other entertaining items, not least of, which was "Hats and Faces," in which' his facial expressions were- shown- with great versatility. Mr. Wright was assisted by Miss Mina Caldow (contralto), and Mr. Allwright (baritone). Miss Caldow, who was in'excellent voice, sang quite a number ,of songs, presenting the aria "Softly Awakes My He-art/ , from "Samson and Delilah," which was admirably eung; "The Little Damosel" (Novello); a bracket. "AVhen Song is Sweet" (Sans Souci); "0 Garden Full of ; Roses" (Clark);.. Hullah's "Three Fishers"; "My Heart is Weary" (Goring Thomas) : and a charming air,, "Down Vauxhill Way" (Olwer), which was delightfully isung, . , .. Mr. Alhvrighti sang vory well indeed, his programme items including "The Devout Lover" (M. V. White), "Pagan" : (Lohr), "Eldorado" (Mallinson),. -and "My Violet," also a Mallinson number: Miss Gladys Watkins accompanied admirably throughout, and encores were frequently demanded. 1
