FACT ESTABLISHED ~(Reo, November 25, 9.45 p.m.) Washington, November 24. The Secretary x of State's Department has informed tho Chilean authorities that it has definitely established the fact' that the Germans broke Chile's neutrality by establishing a naval base in the Juan. Fernandez Group. (Rec. November 26, 1 a.m.) Valparaiso, November 25. Chile has sent a, training ship to Juan Fernandez to investigate the point whether the Germans nave established a baso there. The Government is prepared to adopt energetic measures to preserve its neutrality. ■•-.'"
The Juan Fernandez Group belongs to Chile, is administered by the Province of Acaneogna, and is situated 415 miles from Valparaiso. The inner island has a good anchorage in San Juani Bautista (or Cumberland Bay)) when for four .years, 1704-9 a Scotchman named Alexander Selkirk lived a solitary life, lis experience supposedly furnishing the basis of Defoe's immortal "Rcbinson Crusoe." The Eroup was originally discovered by Juan Fernandez, a Portuguese navigator, in 1574.
