BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING,
' The ordinary meeting of the Onslow Borough Council was lield last night. The Mayor (Mr. C. C. Crump) presided, and there were also present—Councillors B. Lyimeberg, J. C. Gardner, L.' A. Browne, C. Bowden, C. E. Alderson, A. H. Hoby, and R. A.. Nicol.
A letter was received from the General Manager of the New Ziealand Railways stating that in response to the council's request that a Sunday evening train be run from Thorndon to Johnsonville, the Department had decided by way of exrun a Sunday train at 8.50 p.m. during the summer months.
With respect to applications from the Khandallah Bowling Club and the Khandallah Lawn Tennis Club for remission of rates it was decided to reply to the effect that the council could not see its .way to grant, the requests. In regard to the question of providing water and drainage for the borough, the following ■ recommendation of a Bpecial Public Works Committee- was adopted:—"That with a view to forming and ascertaining the opinion of the ratepayers, 'public meetings bo held at Ngaio and Khandallah, the question of water supply only to be dealt with." The council decided to hold tho meetings on Monday, November 30 at Ngaio, and the following Monday at Khandallali. Other recommendations of the Publio Works Committee adopted were that in connection with the kerbing from the Ngaio Store to tho bridge at thfl station, that the breastwork bo undertaken at the same time, and that the road foreman's report be adopted, with tho exception of the item relating to the tarring and sanding of the "footpath from Boxhill to the Khandallah Station. On the recommendation of the Publio Works Committee, it was decided to purchase a floor for tho Khandallah Public Hall in view of the Tennis Club's guarantee to find the balanoe (£3 18s.) of tlieir contribution for that purpose as required by the council.
Councillor Nicol moved.:—"That the strips of land on each sido of the existing right-of-way between Mona Crescout and an unnamed street.be taken under the Public Works Act for the purpose of making a 66ft. road." The motion was carried.
A circular-letter wa-s received from the Minister in charge of the National Providence Fund regarding local bodies' superannuation. Consideration of tho lptter wae deferred. District fund accounts, amounting to £662 145., were passed for payment.
