LAYING OF FOUNDATION STONE. An event long anticipated by the workers connected with the Boys' Institute will eventuate thi3 afternoon, when His Excellency the Governor, the Earl of Liverpool] will lay tho .foundation etone of the new building in Tasman. Street at 3 o'clock. Tip contract for the new buildingwas let six months ago to Mr. A. E. TEurTell, the contract price being over £11,000: Good headway has been made with the work, and the largo area to be occupied by the tepid swimming bath has been excavated and enclosed, and most of the steel framework required for the building 16 now in place. Members of the City Council, suburban councils, Harbour Board, and Chambers of Commerce, and other local bodies have been invited to the function, at which Dr. Gibb, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice, the Hon, A. L. Herdman, the Mayor of the City, and the Institute director will speak. The president of the Institute, Mr. Geo. A. Troup, will ask His Excellency to lay tho stone, and the contractor, Mr. A. E. Hurrell, will present His Excellency with a silver trowel and mallet with which to perform the function. The ladies' auxiliary of the Institute will provide afternoon tea for all who may be present, and it is hoped the public will attend in large numbers. An. invitation is extended to everybody to attend the ceremony. The new building will be known an the Wellington' Boys' Institute and S. -A. Rhodes Homo for Boys.
