ACROSS THE EAST PRUSSIAN BORDER
STEADY ADVANCE OF RUSSIANS SERIES OF MAGNIFICENT ASSAULTS (Rec, November 10, 0.15 A.m.)' v Petrograd, November 8. The Russian cavalry damaged the Pleschen Railway Station. The Rub?ians in East Prussia captured a strongly fortified position in the dietrict of Wirbullon, near Suwalki, on the Prussian border, and have reached Stalluponen, in East Prussia. The Russians have continued the offensive in Galicia, capturing on the Ran 125 officers, 12,000 men, and some quickfirers. They also took prisoners a! thousand men southward of Przemysl. '■ (Rec. Novembor 10, 1.30 a.m.) Petrograd, November 9. The 'Austrians on Monday were strongly entrenched at Sandomierz in three lines, with wire entanglements carrying alternating electrio currents. The Russians by a series of magnificent assaults carried all, three lines with the bayonet. The Austrians on Monday evening were strongly reinforced, but tho Russians repulsed tho attack, approachcd Sandomierz at night, and stormed the defences of tho town in the morning at the bayonet's point. Tho Austrians left many wounded and retreated, burning the Vistula bridges. Plesclien is in East Prussia, 52 miles S.E. of Poscn on the railway conr.ccting Posen with Cracow. Stalluponen is in East Prussia, and is a junction station, one lino of railwa.y leadin" to Tilsit and the other to Gumburntn and Insterburg.
