Pupils of tho Hastings District High School .TVere presented yesterday morning with long-distance swimming certicates, won last season. _ Among the winnera were: —Elsie Irwin and'Milly Touiisoiid, 2000 yards; John Doree, 2100; Molly. Aldridge and Dick Effingham, 2500; Rae Carpenter, 3850. At the Congregational Church, Napier, yesterday, Miss K. Dodds, daughter or Mr. and Mra. Dodds, of Napier, was married, by the Row A. Hodge, to Mr. Ernest A. Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Young, also of Napier. The totals of the War and Relief Funds subscribed in Napier up to yesterday are as -follow: —War Fund, £10,714 12s. Bd.; British Relief Fund, £130 175.; Belgian Belief Fund, £943 12s. 2d.; Liverpool Kind, £625 Bs.. 6d.; Napier. Local Distress Fund, £431 lis. 6d.; Combined Relief Fund (British, Belgian, etc.), £1240 I4s. lOd.; Red Cross Fund, £11 lis. The sum of £160 2s. 6d. has been collected in Napier towards the Huntly Relief Fund. i The following officers wero elected at the 20th annual meeting cf fie Napier Swimming Club, held last night_: — Patron, Mr. J. Falmerston North Cricket Association was held on Monday .evening, Mr. J. Murray ' presiding. The following? officers were elected: —President, Mr. S. Greer; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. J. Palmer, J. 'if Vernon,, T. R. Hodder, F. Kensington, H. Le Grange, B. J.. Jacobs, J. Murray, T. W. Wilson, H. P. Anderson, W v . L. Fitzherbert, A. M. Morley; secretary and treasurer, , Mr. R. Bennett. Several members of St. James's Young Men's Bible Class, Wellington, visited St. Andrew's Bible Class for the week-end. Thoy were entertained by the local class at a "social" on Monday evening after a tennis match, which St. Andrew's won. MASTERTON. Tho Superintendent of Workers' Dwellings has written the Masterton agent of the Labour Department stating that tenders for the erection of rural workers' dwellings will close on November 3. As the tenders have to be submitted to the Tenders Board; it will probably be several weeks before the work of erection will be commenoed. At the closing session of the Ladies' Physical' Culture Club on Tuesday evening, Miss G. Haggitt, the-instructress, was presented with a series of bound volumes of Dickens's works. Very welcome rain fell yesterday evening. • It will be worth thousands of pounds to the settlers. Mr. William Riddle, an old settler of this district, died in Masterton Hospital yesterday. • CARTERTON. On the Carterton bowling green on Monday morning a challenge rink from the Masterton Club met a'local rink in competition for the medals, Carterton winning by 18 to 15. The scores wore: Carterton —F. Lindop, A.' Phillpotts, ff. T. Masson, G. Hughan (s,), 18; Masterton—J: M'Calden," Cole,' Chap.man, Pragnell (s.), 15.
