THE VEILED PLAGUE
HOSPITAL BOARD AND THE DOCTORS.
' The honorary secretary of the Wellington . Division of the British Medical Association (Dr. Tolhurst) recently sent the following letter to. tho Wellington Hospital Board:— . "With regard to the resolution of your board in connection with tho adoption of more effective methods to check venereal diseases, I havo been instructed to write and inform you that the division is in sympathy with the movement, but many of the resolutions were objected to by members. At. our last meeting, on September 4, tho following motions were carried:— '(1) That this meeting-believes that medical lectures on venereal diseases could Bervo no useful purpose beyond instructing tho audience m methods 'of prevention after exposure to infection. The meeting suggests that this instruction would not meet with the approval of a large section of the community. The attention of the public to the necessity of immediate treatment upon the appearance of venereal disease, and to the serious nature of these diseases, could be obtained by other means' than lectures. 12) That it would be advisablo to delay taking action until tho present Royal Commission on venereal diseases, now. sitting in England, has published its report.'" When the letter was read before the board yesterday afternoon the chairman (Rev. W. A. Evans) said that he was rather surprised at the tone of the decision. ' He added that ho-thought that lectures by the, right people could do good. ■
