On one occasion she had a narrow escape of meeting with an enemy's cruiser. -The Gorman warship called at an island in the Society Group, at which the Taluno was due, and made inquiries when tho Taluno was expected. Tho information imparted was not quite accurate, with tho result that the Talune never came within tho danger area. .The.Taluno arrived at Harotonga on September 29, and was due at Raiatea on October 3. On tho night of October 2 tilio wireless operator intercepted communications between tho German cruisers within a hundred miles radius, and the Taluno doubled back to Rarotonga at top speed. Subsequently the Talune coniplctcd her usual itinerary without incident.'
