INTERCOLONIAL STEAMER SERVICES
A NEW ARRANGEMENT. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Duncclin, October 19. With a view to meeting numerous requests, and to suit tlie interests of the community at large, tlio Union Company and Messrs. Iluddart, . Parker, Ltd., have revised the intercolonial services. A how service lias been devised between Melbourne and Hobart and Now Zealand ports, and the Paloona and the Wimmera. will be engaged in a ten-day service on this route-. The Paloona will riiako the first trip from Melbourne <m Wednesday, and will maintain the following timo-table for tho trip :— Melbourne, depart Wednesday, Hobart, arrive Friday, depart Saturday; Bluff, arrive Tuesday, depart Wednesday; Dunedin, arrive Thursday, depart Friday; Lyttelfcon, arrive Saturday, depart Saturday; Wellington, arrive Sunday, depart Monday for south and Hobart, arrive Friday, depart Saturday; Melbourne, arrive Monday. The Paloona' will make this round every 21 days, the only difference from the former service being that she proceeds from AVellington to Hobart instead, of from Wellington to Sydney. The Wimmera. will alternate with tlio Paloona, leaving. Melbourne every 21 days for Hobart, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, Hobart, and Melbourne, and proceeding over the reverse route to the Paloona.
The service via ;Cook Strait has also been rearranged, and weekly trips will in future be made by the Manuka, Moeniki, and Ulimaroa, between Lyttslton,. Wellington, Sydney, and "Hpbarfc, returning by the same route. The timetable will be as follows:— '
Lyttelton, depart Thursday; Wellington, arrive and depart Friday; Sydney, arrive Tuesday, dopait Wednesday; Hobart, arrive Friday. On the reverse route the time-table will 1)b as follovrs:—Hobart, depart Monday :—Sydney, arrive- Wednesday, depart Friday; Wellington, arrive Tuesday, depart Wednesday; Lyttclton, arrive Thursday. The call at Hobart, which will now form part of the service, will be initiated by, the Ulimaroa. which will leave Sydney on Wednesday for Hobart. ;
Tho charge made for .transhipping has also been the cause of somo comment, and in connection with tho matter the' union Company advisos that in order to make tho service as 'valuable as possible to southern shippers, it has decided to absorb the extra charge of 3s. 6d. nor ton at present made on wJiich is to be transhipped. ;
