ELECTRIC LIGHT RETURNS
INCREASE FOR SEPTEMBER,, The returns of tho City Electrical Lighting Department continue, to show li normal increase in spite of the .unsettled state' of the times. As' will be Been below the revenue return for September exceeds that for tbo corresponding month of last year by £259, whilst the working expenses only increased by £96. During the last month, too, 43,394 units were.soldin excess of the number charged for in September of last year. Tho revenue for the six months of tlie financial year ended September 30 shows an increase of £530 over the corresponding period of last year, but here the working expenses are shown to have more than accounted for that increase. The detailed figures (1913 in parentheses) areas follow:— Soptomber.—Revenue, £5664 (£5405); working expenses, £2106 (£2310); capita! charges, £1535 (£1473); credit balance, £1723 (£IG22); units sold, 307,514 (264,420); new connections, 113.(85). April 1 to September 30—Revenue, £37,575 (£37,045); working expenses, £14,158 (£13,589); capital charges, £9212 (£8837); credit balance, £14,205 (£14,619); units sold, 1,999,894 (1,750,522); new connections, 779 (672); total connections at September 30, 1914', 9758 (8532). - ■"■;'-'-
