ANOTHER RAILWAY CROSSING ACCIDENT. MAN KILLED AT PALMERSTON NORTH. (By Telegraph.—Presa Association.) . Palmerston N., October 12. A man named Henry Chalk met a tragic fate this morning, being run oyer by a Foxton train at the crossing. When the train was about one hundred yards away deceased was close to the line, looking towards the train, which whistled; but when it approached he started to walk across. The brakes were applied, but it waa too late to prevent a tragedy. "When Chalk was picked up ho was still living, but. ho died on reaching the' station. | Deceased came recently from Pahiatua, and had been missing from his place of abode since Saturday. YOUNG WOMAN THROWS HERSELF OVER A CLIFF. Naplor, October 12. Catherine , Ida Locking, aged 81, daughter of the late Dr. Locking, committed suicide by throwing herself over Bluff Hill early yesterday morning. A verdict of suicide whilst of unsound mind was returned at the inquest. DEATH AT SEA. Auckland, October 12. Mrs. Nellie Osborne, a resident of Helensville, died.on the Riverina on the voyage from Sydney to Auckland. Sho had been on a visit to Queensland for tlio benefit of her health, having gone into a decline from consumption. DROWNING ACCIDENT. | Timaru, October 12. John Leitch, aged 66, a farmer, near Pleasant Point, was found drowned in tlio Opihi River on Sunday. There was no evidence as to how he had come to be in the river. ' A verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. . Timaru, October 12. An inquest was held to-day touching the death of Ernest Shaw, aged 19, son of a Woodbury farmer, and a member of the Territorials. Deceased went out with a pea-rifle on Sunday morning, and on Monday his body was found m the scrub, shot through the heart. The position of i the body indicated that deceased had probably slipped a steep bank, somo 12 feet The coroner returned a finding of accidental death. ACCIDENT TO A LITTLE GIRL, On Saturday afternoon' the little daughter of Mr. R. M'Laren, of Clarevillo, had the misfortune to break ono of her arms just above'the elbow. She was playing with a sister on'.a cart, when she fell off, doubling her arm under her.—Carterton' Correspondent. CORONER'S INQUEST. Hie inquest into the death of James Gillon, who died.at the Wellington Hospital as the injuries received, through being'run, over by-Dr. Tollmrst's motor-car on Friday night, will be held at the Hospital at 4 p.m. today.
