LONDON MISSIONARY SOCIETY

.WELLINGTON AUXILIARY. . The annual meeting of the Wellington Auxiliary of the London Missionary Society was held on Tuesday evening, the Rev. J. Heed Glasson presiding. The reports of the year's work of the committee and the ladies' auxiliary were read and adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as under:—President, Rev. A. E. Hunt; secretary, Mr. W. Mill; treasurer, Mr. W. W. lvnowles; minute secretary, Miss Harper; auditor, Mr. Greig; librarian, Miss' May. The existing committee was re-elected, with power to add to its number. A vote of thanks was passed to the secretary (Mr. Mill), treasurer (Mr. Knowles), and other officials and committee for the good work they had done during the year. The Rev. F. P. Joseland, from China, attended, as a deputation from the parent society, and gave an interesting and instructive address, in which he referred to the operations of the various missions in the Fu-chien province. In Amoy there wore'the agencies of the London Missionary Society, the English Presbyterians, and the American E«formed Dutch Church, while in Foochow there were thoso of-the Church Missionary Society, the American Board of Missions, and the American Methodist Episcopal Church. All these missions lived together in perfect amity and unity. He went on to speak of the many dialects existing in the territory, and tho obstacles to bo overcome in order to spread the Gospel among the people. The Chinese themselves supported the churches, and were learning that the Gospel they were receiving was worth , propagating. Mr. Joseland related incidents dealing with national traits of the Chinese, and altogether he presented his subject in a very attractive form. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Joseland for his address.
