(From Our Own Correspondents.* ■Ameeting of the Lower Hutt District High .School was held last evening Present: Mr. fl. Baldwin (chairman) nnd Messrs. Macaskill, Meldrum, Gibson, Woodward, Leighton, and'Anson. The headmaster's report slated that tho attendance for the quarter ending September SO had been as follows:— Secondary: average roll, 15; attendance, 14. Main school: average roll, 561; attendance, 517. Eastern Hutt: average roll, 161; attendance, 144. Total: aver-ago roll, 740; ..attendance, 675. Tho roll numbers in both schools re increasing, there being 585 in the Main School and 177 at Eastern Hutt. In consequonce of an outbreak of measles in the.lower infant class, tho room had been disinfected with formalin. The report called attention to- the ilust nuisance, and suggested that the nouncils be approached with a view to having_ tho street on the school side of the bridge watered beforo 9 a.m. The following members of the Petono Division of tho St. John Ambulance Brigade were successful in a re-examina-tion conducted at Potone by Dr. Ross: Messrs. E. W. Andrews, J. Smart, A. Marsden, J. Kyle, F. Reistrick, and A. H. Medhurst. A conference between tho committees of the AVellington and Poteno Working Men's Clubs was held last evening at Pctone, when matters in connection with the opening of tho new theatre were discussed. It is anticipated that tho building, which will be called the F.mpire Theatre, will bo opened about November 9. Tho weekly mooting of the Hope of Petone Lodgo of Good Templars waa bold last night in the Ranfurly Hall, Sydney Street, Potone. Bro. J. Rose, C.T., presided over the meeting, which was fairly well attended. Competitions were won by Bros. Rose and Brian and Sisters L. Lawrenco ajid Brian.
