Tlie report of the examiners upon TSe third annual examination for young students of the French language, conducted under the auspices of the Cercle Francais, was presented at. the last meeting of that body. The number of •entrants examined was 26, as against 20 last year, and the standard of efficiencj' shown was, as a whole, , superior to that of last year. The examiners were: Mesdames Dechanet-Maclntosh and Decleere, and Messrs. H. F. Lattey and J. H. Ohapnian. The highest percentage of marks was gained by Miss Iris Woodhouse (Wellington Girls' College), 89 5-12 per cent., and it was recommended tliat she he awarded the gold medal. It ie worthy of note that when a comparison was made of the marks allotted by each examiner, it was found that all of them had given this candidate the highest marks. .Next highest came Miss Phyllis Mather (Wellington Girls' College)— 81 1-12 per cent. It was recommended that elm be awarded the silver medal; Th'e marks gained by the third candidate, Master Clifford Bowler (St. Patrick's College), were one-third per cent, below those of the second candidate. It w«vs -further recommended that, certificates of honourable mention' be awarded to those candidates (other than the first and second) who obtained an average, percentage of 75 or over. Thesp. were:. Master Clifford Bowler, 80 i; Miss Dorie Hulme (Wellington Girls' College), 75 7-12: Miss Dorothy Mainland (Wellington. Girls' College), To 13-24.
