ME, FIELD AS REFORM NOMINEE FOR OTAKI.

There was a meeting of delegates at Lovin on Saturday representing fifteen branches of tlio Roforin League. Tlioso present were: Messrs. J. H. Murray (Levin), R. R. Han-is (Paraparauinu), J. Silvester (Waikanao), H. Bond (Reikiorangi), M. Carkeek (Otaki), W. H. Karsten (Manakau), John Kebbell (Ohau), E. Laws , (Shannon), J. R. Whyte (Tokomaru), C. F. Johnston (Motua), B. G. Cower (Foxton), W. Jewell (Rangiotu), W. Anion (Glen Oroua), H. Vile (Orua Downs), J. S. Smith (Paekakariki), Mr. F, Roe (Levin), acting-secretary, and Mr. A. A. Paape, organiser. The chairman of tho Levin branch (Mr. J. H. Murray) occupied the chair. The organiser reported that acting under instructions he had addressed meetings in all the centres throughout the electorate and as a result seventeen branches of the league had been formed. 'With the exception of five branches all were represented at, the conference, and as these branches had held meetings t!ho reason of the absence of their delegates must have been duo to some.extraordinary circumstance. In all parts of the electorate Mr. Paape stated he had 2 good reception and from the general indications ho ventured to predict that i the Otaki beat would go to Reform at the forthcoming election. The chairman stated that as .there were .two aspirants for the honour of being the Reform candidate, and as the delegates had instructions as to how they were to vote, he considered that the names be submitted to a ballot. In reply to a question as to whether tho gentleman not selected would consent to stand down, tho organiser stated that- Mr. Byron Brown had written, to branshes'of tho leaguo at Paraparaumu and Otaki intimating that he was willing to sacrifice himself and his prospects rather than spoil the Eeform chances if Mr. Field started on equal' terms with him..

A letter was read from Mr. W. H. •Field in .-n-hicli 'that gentleman stated that ho would.abide by tho selection of delegates. ' Scrutineers were appointed to tako the ballot, which resulted as-follows:— W. H. .Field, 14; Byron Brown, 1. A motion that Mr. Field be the Government candidate for Otaki was sub■sequently carried unanimously. The delegates present then signed. Mr. Field's nomination paper. After tho customary vote of thanks, tho meeting 'orminated with tho singing of the National Antiein.
