<- THORNDON CLUB'S YEAR. . The annual report of the Thorndon Amateur Swimming Club, to be presaiiled at the annual meeting at the Hotel Cecil on Monday next, sto.ttM that the past season was a unit biiccc-ssful one. Tho main object of the club, rianic.'y,' to teach and encourage swimming, had been.kept steadily, in view, and it was gratifying to bo able to report that exceedingly satisfactory results Ud been

obtained. During the season, trophies of the total value of £28 wore eomr.'ited for and awarded, as compared w'fli £25 expended for the sain;) purpose during the previous season'. A very keen struggle had tn!«ai place for the "Ward" Challenge Cup, a cup presented by the Bight Hon. Sir J. G. Ward, which had resulted in a popular wiu for the club captain, Mr. Roy Nelson. Tho report goes on to review most interestingly the events of tho year. The club had again to heartily thank the president and vice-presidents for their hind assistanco and for their generous donations. During the past few seasons a number of prominent members havo been lost to tho club owing to transfer from Wellington for business reasons. Among those who left this year was Mr. S. J. Dudson; who gave every promiso of developing into a very fine swimmer. At the beginning of August, upon the outbreak of the' European War, continues the report, a number of members of tho club volunteered to serve the' Empire. The captain and vice-captain, three of the committeo, and about a dozen club members were consequently absent on active service. That they might all return to New Zealand fit and well was the earnest wish of tho committee, and that wish would undoubtedly bo echoed by every member of the club. Tho financial position of the club was satisfactory, as there •was still a.balance in hand of £19 3s. lid.- It would bo observed that entrance fees totalled £9 75., which was evidence that there were over 200 starters in club events during the season. Members' subscriptions totalled £11 4s. 6d., there being over eighty senior and junior financial members of the club.
