WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION MEETS ■ The annual meeting of the' Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association was held last night! Mr. G. A. Hurley (rice-president) occupied the chair, and there was an attendance of 15. A number of delegates were absent on military duty, and it was decided to put, their names on lecord'. , ..In. moving the adoption of the report (already published), the chairman said' that the put in probably not so good a year as the one before, due'to a, largo extent to the, strike. Mr. F. W. Orombie seconded the motion. Hβ thought that-it would be a good idea to make the hard-court tournament at Easter an annual event. Although' it was not a financial success last year, he believed that it would bo so. in the future. . • Mr. Baker. suggested that in. future balance-sheets separate accounts should bo kept for, levies. \ ; The -. report and balance-sheet were adopted. ,' , i Income for the ensuing season was estimated at £174, and expenditure £63. As there was a difficulty in getting a secretary, lie agreed to accept tho position for one month, on the understanding that steps were at once taken to appoint a secretary.

After lengthy discussion, a motion was carried as follows:—"That the Management Committee bo recommended' to take into consideration tho , appointment of a secretary, at a remuneration (if required) of an amount not'exceeding £25." .; J Mr. F. AV. Crombio, in nocordanco with-notice of motion, moved: "That this associition affiliate with tho New Zealand Sports Protection League." In support, of the motion he srltike of the good work done by the league. ' "In the discussion that ensued it was stated that the leaguo was run largely in the interests of the racing clubs. The benefits, it was considered, would not be':great to a tennis : the chairman opposed the motion. He felt they would be losing a certain- independence of action by affiliating. It would bo against the interests of their amateur status to join with a body which 'was largely connected with a body which paid cash'prizes, such as rasing clubs. ' In replying, Mr. Crombie pointed out that tho tennis people had benefited .by the remission of rates granted the sports bodies by the City Council, after representations had been made by the Sports Protection League. Tho motion v/as lost on a show of hands.
