(From Oar Own-'ConcspondenW.) A meeting of Lower Hutfc citizens was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) ■ presiding, to consider the question of providing entertainments for the troops encamped at Hutt'Park. Mr, H.' Rowell, of the King George. Pictures, intimated that the • management had arranged to reserve seats for troopers as follow:; —On Monday and Wednesday next, 300; and on Saturday, 150. A .vote of thanks was carried unanimously to the Picture Proprietary for their generosity. .JVith a, view to providing an entertainment' at tie camp on Tuesday nest, it'was agreed that all . present form a working committee, and Messrs. Chapman, Piirdy, : and Hodgins were appointed a programme' committee,' Progress is to be reported on Friday evening next. An entertainment "is to be given at the camp this 1 evening, by the Petone citizens, at the instance of the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewah). It is understood that the Petone. Municipal Band 'will render a programme next Sunday at the park... 'The Petone bowling ;green will be officially opened, on Saturday afternoon, and the Lower Hutt green on October 10. . ■ At the Petone. Municipal Band's smoko t . concert on Tuesday evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewari) presented Bandsman Hume with a medal for being tils most' improved learner, and presented Bruid-Sergeant BaOumgren and Bandsmen Frances, Rose, and Walters with medals for attendance. Bandsman Cload then presented'the president (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) with.a set of pipes on behalf of the band. , Bro. J. Rose, C.T., presided' at the weekly ' meeting of the Hope of Petone Lodge of Good. Templars, No. 187; Bro. Ford, a member of - Hope' of Christchurch Lodge, No.'. 8, was again present at the meeting, and , was welcomed as a "isitor. The harmony committee who wore in charge arranged a jumble stall, the proceeds of which wAe handed to the lodge fr.nds. Greetings:were received from various oversea lodges and-were reciprocated. The lodge was closed by Bro. J. Rose, C.-T. Four new members were proposed and will come up. for initiation next week.
A "self-denial night" was held at the Petone Salvation Army Barracks last evening, Sergeant Wheatley, of the Expeditionary' Forces,' presiding over' a large gathering. Adjutant Sixon distributed goods from a large gift tree, Bro. Fiahklyn was in charge of the fish pond, arid.'Mrfc; Adjutant Hultquistconducted the refreshment stall. The Petono Methodist Choir, under Mr. Aclciro'yd, supplied the programme, the soloists being the Misses Foster and Blakeley, and Messrs. t Cliamberlain and Maud. Adjutant Hiiltquist, on behalf of tho local corps, thanked the members of the choir for their courtesy.
A very successful flannel dance under .the auspices of the Petone Rowing Club was held last evening. About 120 persons attended, ..including a number of non-commissioned officers and troopers from the. Hutt Park Camp. Messrs. B. Tremain and "J. Staples acted as M.C.'s, and Mrs. J. Pollock's orchestra supplied the music.- The committee responsible for the success of the evening consisted of Messrs. Careen, Tremain, Staples, Burridge, and Parrant.
