THE ELECTIONS
SOCIAL DEMOCRATS PREPARING. A joint meeting of the Central Branch of the Social Democratic Party, the Bootmakers' Union, and the Housewives' Union was held last night for tho purpose of selecting a committee to conduct the election campaign on behalf of the Social Democratic candidates in Wellington Central, East, and North. A general committee was sot up, and also sub-committees for the three electorates. The candidates are jjlr. H, Holland, editor of the "Maoriland Worker," for Central, Mr. C. H. Chapman for East, and Mr. P. Fraser, National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party,- for North. The National Executive of the party has approved of the decision of the branch to contest these-three: seats. A. motion was also passed by tho meeting protesting against the -City CounciPs proposal to sell some of the properties recently "acquired for 6treot widening in Willis Street,' on the ground that public ownership of property ought to lie extended.
