THE HUNTLY DISASTER

"■ Auckland, September 211 The mining of coal at Huntly has been "'- completely suspended since the disas- ' trous explosion on September 12, but arrangements have been made by the directors of tho Taupiri Coal Mine©; Ltd., 'with a view to the restoration of '. the industry as quickly as possible. Mr, E W. Alison, chairman of d'irectors,' stated to-day that it is expected that work will be resumed in the Extended mino on Wednesday, and though it is probable that the operations will be limited to one shift it is hoped that the two-shifts system will soon be established again in this mine. An adequate supply of safety lamps has now been secured, those ordered from Sydney having arrived by the Maheno. No damage was caused by the explosion in tno Extended mine, as life barrier between it and Ralph' 6 mine has been preserved as a protection.. Mr. Alison said that owing to the loss of so many officials by the disaster, there' will be difficulty in complying with the' requirements of the Mining Act, but the company is anxiou6 to provide employment as quickly as possible for all the men in its service. Tims of the Huntly mino disaster was carried. , , At a" meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Railway Engine-drirers', Firemen, and Cleaners' Association a vote of sympathy was passed with the. relatives of those who lost their lives in the Huntly disaster.
