THE CITY MARKETS
The .shipment of Island fruit reported as landing last week met a very good reception indeed, moat of the buyers being devoid of stocks. Prices ranged very high for good-conditioned lines, and the market remains firm. Sydney consignments continue small, with good values offering for all lines. During the past month quite a large quantity of scab, scalo, and fly-infected fruits have arrived in Wellington, but were, of course-, condemned by the local irispe<> tors, which fact has contributed largely to the very noticeable shortage .of local-grown fruits. All lines of fruit arc now realising very well, and the market is very arm for choice lines. With' the approach of spring, large quanties of green peas, l asparagus, tomatoes, and rhubarb are to hand, with good values ruling in each instance. Vegetables generally are easier with the arrival of spring goods, but values are still in the - seller , a favour. Onions are dearer, but potatoes have eased during the week, and do not appear to have reached their lowest value so far. Fresh eggs are unchanged.
