LINER REPORTED SUNK

BY A GERMAN CRUISER. Auckland, September 18. News has been received I'n insurance circles in Auckland that the Harrison liner Diplomat, 7600 tons, with £250,000 worth of cargo, was sunk in the Bay of Bengal by the German cruiser Emden. The Diplomat is a comparatively new steamer, hayinc been built ae recently ias 1912. The Emden is a third-class cruiser of 3544 tons ,with a speed of 25 knots, and carrying ten 4.lin. guns. She |Was stationed in China waters for some time prior to the outbreak of the war, and was reported early in the war to have been sunk by the Russian cruiser Aekold off the China coast, which, vessel herself also sank.
