TREASURY BILLS TENDERS THREEFOLD SUBSCRIPTIONS London, September 17. Forty-seven millions has been tendered for tho Government issue of £15,000,000 in Treasury bills. For six months bills the average interest asked is at the rate of 58s. 6d. per annum; and for twelve months 68s. 3d. HEAVY PURCHASES OF PRODUCE. r New York, September 17. There has been heavy foreign buying of wheat, flour, and oats, speculators believing that the war will be a protracted one. Over two- million bushels of oats was purchased for export on Tuesday and Wednesday last, and nearly the same amount of wheat. INCREASED WHEAT ACREAGE. ■ Ottawa, September 17. After consulting representatives of Western Canada, the Minister of Agrioulture has urged the farmers to increase the wheat acreage under cultivation in view of the war conditions in Europe.
AUSTRALIAN PRICES. Sydney, September 18. A Government proclamation reduces the price of gas from 3s. 10d. to 3s. 6d. per 1000 ft. . The Commodities Commission report states.that immediately war was declared tho wholesale grocers raised the prices of imported commodities by from 1\ to 20 per cent., and in one ca6e by 100 per cent. The Commission disclaims any intention to interfere with the routine sales of perishable products so long as no attempt is made to comer tho market.
