The takings in the various departments at tho recent Waikanae carnival were as under:—Gates, £14 Is. 6d.; work stall, £17 15s. 3d.; tea and refreshments, £7 175.; produce and flowers, £5 18s. 3d.; sweets,. £3 ss. 10d.; sheep weight guessing, £6 35..; entries for events, £2 17s. 6d.; donations, £3; social, £4 6s. 6d.; gipsy tent, £2; children's ambulance boxes, £1 55.; gift auction, £38 10s.; total, £107 Is. lOd. It is thought that after paying all expenses there will be a sum of £100 to swell the Patriotic Fund. The opening of tho bowling season in Otaki will probably take place at the end of' this month, but the. official opening, will not be till about the first week in October. Judging by the interest, displayed the season promises to be very' successful.
