THE LATE MR. STUART RICHARDSON

The- funeral of the late Mr. Stuart Richardson, Tramways and' Electrical Engineer, which took place yesterday morning, was very largely attended. Owing to indisposition the Mayor (Mr. J. ■ P. Luke) was unable to be preseait. Amongst the many who attended were Councillors R. Fletcher, A. H. Hindmarsh, H. Buddie, ,G. Frost, W. J. Thompson (members of the Tramways Committee), J. Godber, L. M'Kenzie, R. A-. -Wright, and J. Fuller,' Messrs. W. H. Morton and M. Cable (the late Mr. Richardson's colleagues on the Tramways Board), J. E. Palmer (Town Clerk), J. O'Sliea (City C. Collins (City Treasurer), J. M. Morice and A. J. Paterson (Assistant City Engineers), P. M'Coll (Power Station Superintendent), H. Leah (Carsheds Superintendent), G. Lauchlair (Lighting Superintendent), A. Gardiner (Superintendent of Permanent Way), G. E. James (Assistant Traffic Superintendent), R. 0. Petersen (Accountant of the. Tramways Department), J. C. Russell (Overhead Equipment Superintendent), H. Smith (Departmental Draughtsman), the Hon. T. W. Hislop and Mr. C. M. Luke (ex-Mayors), Mr. R. Tait (chief clerk in the Town Clerk's . office), and ex-Councillor G. Winder. . Tm of the: deceased gentleman's sons (Stuart and Douglas) wer'o tho chief.mourners, and four tramway inspectors acted as pall-bearers. A number of the working staff of the tramways department were present, as were also representatives of Lodgo Waterloo-(Masonic),, of .which the deceased was .a member. The service at the graveside was conducted .by the Rev. Mr. Askew, war of St. Mark's. : -._At a meeting of the Wellington Municipal Officers' Association Executive, hold yesterday, the following motion was passed: "That tho executive of the Wellington Municipal Officers' Association expresses the very. deepest regret of the association at the untimely death of tho late Mr. Stuart. Richardson, -a highly valued officer, known and respected by all .members of the staff as a man of sterling and kindly qualities. His exceptional gifts, combined with his lovable disposition, had endeared him to every member of the servico who was ,in any capacity brought into contact with him; and his sad death is felt by. all as tho personal loss of a very dear friend, and one extremely difficult'to replace. Tiie. sincere sympathy of tlio association is extended to. Mrs. Richardson and hor family in.their terrible bereavement, in the earnest liops that the awful blow may be somewhat lightened by the consciousness that the loss of Mr. Richardson is universally mourned throughout the service." At tile meeting of the Tramways Committee of tho City Council liold yesterday afternoon, the acting-chairman (Councillor Geo. , Frost) moved a resolution placing on record the valuable seivices which had been rendered to the Corporation by the late Mr. Richardson, and expressing tlie sympathy of tho members of the committee with the widow and family of tho deceased official. A resolution of sympathy was passed at last night's meeting of the Petono Borough Council. In m'ovine.the resolution, tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewsm) referred to the great assistance the lato Mr. Richardson., had rendered to the borough in his business capacity.
