PETONE RIFLE CLUB

The annual meeting of the Petone Defence llifle Club was hold last eveu"}S at -the Lower Hutt Firo Station, jVlr,-It. l< laws presiding over-a large attendance. The report stated that the butts had been overhauled and repaired, and that servico matches had been fired during.the;year, at;,which the club had done well. Members were reminded in this connection that practice matches 1, 2, aucl 3 were compulsory under the Act. Though the club had but 24 members competing last season, it had offered 22 trophies for competition. Tlie report thanked the donors of trophies and all retiring officers. Tho balanceeheet showed the assets of the club to bo £9 14s. 4d., whilst the liabilities were nil. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. W. A. Grace; president, Mr. E. Flaws; deputy, president, Mr. H. Ayson; vice-presidents, Messrs. Burridge, Binns, Baldwin, Ballinger, -Coles, Eussoll, Knight, . Tre--vethick, Chapman, AVilford, M.P., Eishworth, Bunny, Eiddiford, A. and T. Ballinger, Judd, Palmer, Hollard, B. Warnes, Ingram, King, Welch, Hodgins, Hobbs, and Samuel; secretary, Mr. G. Hogg (re-elected); assistant secretary, Master B. Hogg (re-elected) ; treasurer,' Mr. T. ■ Warburton; committee, Messrs.Knight, Ballinger, M'llvride, . Morris, and Eussell. During the evening 27 new members were enrolled. Mr! S. V. Burridge was,elected a life member, and it was agreed to forward a letter to Rifleman P. Glennie,. a memher who joined the Expeditionary Force, and is now at Palmoreton. wishing him r Godspeed. It was decided to forward' a re(]uest to Colonel Wolff (officer commanding rifle clubs) that the club be allowed to drill in Hutt and Petono alternately, instead of in Wellington. The matter was brought up by Lieut. Woods, who pointed out that after leaving off .work at 5 p.m. the members were compelled to rush in order to catch a train to attend drill at Buckle Street.
