ANXIETY IN BERLIN
STARVING UNEMPLOYED DEPRESSED CITIZENS (Rec., September 13, 5.5 p.m.) 'Copenhagen, September 12. The Berlin Socialist newspaper "Vorwaerts" says, there are an immense number of ; unemployed in Germany whom it is impossible to. help. This army of starving, people is a greater -danger to the. State than the German military defeat.'
London, September 11. A private letter from Berlin received in England states that the' people 01. Berlin are. beginning to realise thfr prospect of defeat. It had, leaked out that the official information was untrue, and anxiety .was growing respecting thf» Russian advance.... ■ '• Other letters from Berlin state that crowds outside the newspaper offices devour bulletins reporting the capture of Russian Array Corps of 30,000, 60,000 and :even 90,000 men. Every English and French name lias disappeared-from the streets, the hotels have been To-named,-the clock faces showing the time in the principal capitals have the names of London, Paris, and St. .Petersburg pasted over.
