ATTEMPTED TRAIN WRECKING

GELIGNITE ON THE LINE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, September 4. Apparently a deliberate attempt to wreck the Waikumeto train was made 011 Wednesday morning. Two . half plugs of gelignite were found on the line at a level crossing on the main road near Waikumete Station The plugs were removed before the train passed. Tltoy were not fitted with detonators, and the person who placed them oil the rails was evidently ignorant of the properties of explosives. Possibly the charges would have failed to explode on oontact with the train. In any case they coulddo 'little damage except to tlie under gear of the engine and a few yards of track.
