HOME RULE BILL
BRIEF DISCUSSION. BY LEADERS. By Telegraph—Frees Association-Copyright (Rec. September 1, 10.35 p.m.) N London, Sept.. 1, morning. Mr. Asquitli, in moving the adjournment of. the House until September 9, said the Government intended to put Home Rule and Welsh Disestaßlishmen't on the Statute Book before the session closed, hut ho would regard it as most unfair to ignore the Irish Amending Bill. He hoped to arrive at a settlement by negotiation, and tlio Government would also make a special proposal regarding the Welsh Bill in view of the new circumstanoes. Mr. Bonar Law, Leader of the Opposition, agreed that it would bo a disgrace if the'' controversy were revived for which the country would not readily forgive them. Mr. Redmond, Nationalist, concurred, (jut said any proposal depriving the Nationalists of the Home Rule Bill would be warmly resented. He believed there has arisen in Ireland a great opportunity for reconciliation. Mr. Balfour regretted Mr. Redmond had not left the matter where Mr. Asquith had left it. . It was not decent to introduce a subject of acute political discussion in the present circumstances. Ministerialists expressed dissent and several Radical members commenced a warm debate until Mr. Asquith appealed to the House to end the discussion in view of the, necessity of presenting a united front to the enemy.
