BANKRUPTCY COURT
ASSYRIAN HAWKER'S AFFAIRS.' A sitting of the Bankruptcy Court was held yesterday morning before His .Honour Mr v JusticG„Hoslung, when an Assyrian hawker'; 1 naniod Joseph Saba, applied for' his discharge. The bankrupt had filed on January 18. 1907, his total debts being £368 9s. 9d.' Of this amount the sum of £221 9s. 9d. represented unsecured liabilities, against which there were assets amounting to £28 7s. 6d. Saba had previously made application for discharge, but had been refused on account of the report of the Official Assignee being unfavourable. Mr. P. J. O'Regan appeared in support of the application yesterday, when the Acting-Official Assignee (Mr. C. Ziichaxiah) again reported unfavourably.
In the course of examination, the bankrupt stated that since his bankruptcy he had been in the Masterton Hospital for a lengthy period. He was living with a ma' Tied son there, and he chad three other children. Up till tho time his wife; died eighteen months ago, she had assisted to keep him and the family! Since her death tho son had been maintaining them..' If he could .obtain, his discharge a fellowcountryman had promised to give him financial assistance to - enable him to start hawking again. His Honour suggested that Saba should receive his discharge conditionally on his-paying his creditors 2s. 6d. in tho £.
Mr. .O'Regan, after conferring with his client,'said he had advised him to agree, but Saba cot Id not see-his way to do so on account of his state of health.
His .Honour said that no good had como of the previous.suspension of tho order, and he did not think any good purpose would be served by suspending the order further. It wduld be bettor that the bankrupt should have a chance of earning his living than that ho should be thrown on tho country for support The discharge would be granted.
